I'm an European control panel builder, in my factory we builds industrial control panel for north America, UL labeled and not labeled. Why control panels not labeled and not UL and Nec compliance don't block by AHJ?
does AHY inspect all new installation? maybe no.
have you an explanation for this issue?
thanks

p.s.
I'm sorry for my terrible English

Re: AHJ inspection

"maybe no" is correct.... it is not a "national standard". some jurisdictions do not enforce UL requirement, some don't inspect all installations, etc.
If you don't mind, I have a question for you.
Are your UL listed control panels assembled any differently from the ones that are not UL?

Re: AHJ inspection

Some local town rules have not adopted the more recent code requirement for listed control panels. When the town (jurisdiction) adopts the 2002 NEC, the will enforce the listing.

Re: AHJ inspection

I know of localities where the AHJ doesn't inspect a lot of new equipment in Industrial Facilities.

Re: AHJ inspection

i'm repling at Augie's answer.
UL listed control panels are different from not UL listed, but my customer asks "why make Listed control panels if not ul listed is good for AHJ?"

Re: AHJ inspection

dyd, thanks for the answer....albeit a bit imcomplete for what I wanted (not your fault, I should have been more specific),,In all the years of enforcing UL (NRTL) listings vs the counterparts which are not listed, I wonder what the customer gets for their money besides a "sticker". In your opinion are yourfUL panels higher quality or safer (ie: better components/sfer circuitry, etc) than their non-UL counterparts?

Re: AHJ inspection

We built a panel several years ago for a customer who moved the panel out of state. The local inspector called to find out if the panel was UL listed. "No it isn't but all the components are listed." He did not pursue it.

Re: AHJ inspection

That won't work in this area. Not being smart, but a bagfull of UL components doesn't make it a UL control panel. To us, there must be some guarantee that all these UL components are installed in such a manner to assure they are designed to work together (withstand ratings, ampere ratings, etc). The overall UL (NRTL) listing of the assemble unit provides that assurance.
