Air-driven pump in classified location - grounding

An air-driven pump is in a Classified Location, Class I, Div. 2. It pumps a caustic fluid but not a combustible fluid. I think the pump manufacturer recommends grounding the pump, but I don't think it is technically covered by the NEC. Is that correct? Is it covered under NFPA? If so which standard?

is the piping it is connected to metal? Is that piping system already grounded?

I think this is covered under the "do what the manufacturer says" rule, rather than any code.

I think you are looking at bonding, to prevent static build up?

The applicable NFPA document is NFPA 77: Recommended Practice on Static Electricity. General overall bonding will be the recommendation. Without specifc knowledge of the installation we can't say much more.
