Re: Alarm Cable in concealed work

Well Bryan I am looking for a wire I could use for low voltage undercabinet lighting and inspector said to my GC there is a wire it is use in Alarm System rated for 300V that could be installed in residential walls. Lights are fed by a transformer in Bsmt and they are 12v 20w

Re: Alarm Cable in concealed work

411.4 requires a Chapter 3 wiring method for this type of installation. Alarm or other low voltage cables are not Chapter 3 wiring methods.

That's why I asked what you were trying to do when you posted this question in the LV forum. Don is correct. You have to use chapter 3 wiring methods unless you are on the new 2005 code. Then LV lighting 100VA or less can be wired with CL2 wiring.
