Aluminum Wiring - pigtails

I have just moved into a house built in 1974 that has aluminum wiring throughout. I would like to add pigtails to the wiring because the light switches, wall outlets and light fixtures are copper rated only.
I want to know what code regulations cover the use of soldering the splices between the aluminum wire and the copper pigtails. I know that this sounds like labor-intensive overkill but the whole aluminum fixture vs AMP TYCO COPALUM crimp vs purple twister nut seems unstable as far what is safe and durable.
Shouldn't soldering the connection provide the safest most permanent connection?
Any feedback/experiences appreciated.

Ah, thanks for the input but I really wanted to know more about specifics on this sort of installation even if only to describe it to a licenced Electrician. Is there anywhere I can find such information?
Thanks,
Ron

Have you considered having an electrician replace all the alumnium wiring?

Also, have you considered having an electrician replace all the wiring devices with ones rated for use with alumnium wiring? I have to believe someone still makes these, since there is still alumnium wiring in a lot of older houses.
