Again, if the area is Class I, Division 2, those fittings are permitted by the code rules.

BIG difference in piping requirements in Div1 and Div2 installations. Make sure you have well defined, and engineered area classifications. Then make your judgements. LB's, sealtight, TEFC motors are all allowed in div2, be carefull

And my question is where is the engineer and why did they pass it..Ive seen inspectors that didnt know that much about art500, but you would think that the company would want it right for insurance purposes reguardlous.
Even open motors are permitted in Class I, Division 2 area.

It is down in the containment area.

Be sure and read the definitions your self, but that sounds like a area that would be subject "accidental spillage" unless they do truck transfers or something like that.....I'm trying to remember back in my refinery days, and it seems like it was DIV2 area...but dont listen to me...A Engineer really should make the call, and probably already has it documented. You just need to get a hold of the right folks

Let’s call it quits on this subject because I don’t think it can be defined by us. From what I read if it is normally confined within a closed container or system it’s C1D2. What we normally do is if it is within the dike wall or above C1D1 if it is outside the dike its C1D2.
Now when I did work for the majors the hole place was C1D1. And as far as the C1D2 goes I would not want to turn on anything after a 10K gas spill in that room.
