does anybody install the Amazon echo dot in wall?
I found this bracket made by mount genie to install the dot in wall, but is there a way to hard wire the dot where you can't see any wires outside the wall?
also where do you normally locate the dot? Im thinking rigth on top of a wall switch in a room.
thank you in advance

I believe that the Dot uses a standard 5 vdc USB charger. You could set it up with PoE and run a cat 5 cable in the wall to feed it. That would require some extra hardware otherwise if you install the USB cable in the wall it would need to be listed for in wall use and need a 120 volt power source at the other end.

I’ve seen ceiling install kits that flush mount it like a speaker with no visible wiring. Try googling that; you could install it flush in a wall too I’m sure.

And 5 years from now when that functionality is built into everything else and the actual Dot unit is a dinosaur, the HO will pay you to come back out and remove it...

20 years ago when adding into my house, I bit the bullet and opened up walls to run CAT 5 cable everywhere and Monster wires in the family room walls for my 5.1 surround sound system. What a waste...

Gee, I am doing that inmy own home. But, I know just how easy it is to hijack someone else’s WiFi and read all their banking records etc...

It's easy to do that?
Well, if you have the fear and knowledge yes... simple radio shack scanner, laptop computer, home built WiFi antenna, and knowing basics of most routers, etc...
plus, used to do it in some other places as an experiment...
can even listen to mobile phones with simple antenna adapter... needs a bit more for the frequency hopping police gear but still not that hard... just takes some time to track down the frequencies and the type of jumps they make..then the little micro computers take over tracking for you. There is commercial gear available but ask any old ham.. the law that stopped us from listening to cell phones on commercial scanners just made loads of homebrew adapters come into being, using the same methods we homebrew our hf gear for low power use anyway.. still have five of my tuna can radios here that work..

A legal flush mounted 120v echo dot and transformer installation will make millions
