It's the difference between a test question and a real world question.

Test question: What is the minimum 75 degree conductor size that will carry X amps of current under some set of conditions?

Real world question: Can I use the boatload of #10 THWN-2 I have out in the truck?

That question would have caught me. I hear THWN and automatically associate it with THHN since that's what I've grown used to seeing.
