Amperage load in a back-fed pannel

I am planing the installation of a back-fed panel, let's assume that I've sized the conductor properly and installed 40 amp two pole breakers at each end. The back-fed breaker even has the hold down installed.

Now, I know I have the ability to install a 220 circuit in the panel, but lets also assume I only install 110 circuits. The panel has two hot buses, each on a 40 amp breaker. So if the load is evenly distributed between both buses is the panel capable of providing 80 amps of total load? Or am I relying on my very out of date Physics 101 class knowledge?

Thanks
