Another Getting Windows Ready lockup.

First thing, first project. Need my laptop and it hung up as I tried to shut down to travel. Thirty minutes and two attempted shutdowns later the message is still there. How long before I remove the battery to ensure a shutdown?

I always check to see if updates are pending when I shutdown and none were indicated so I'll pass it off as another Windows BF.

With most computers if you hold the power button down for about 5 seconds or more it will force a shutdown.

Also, I would turn windows updates OFF.

The most recent update seemed to take a long time on that on my desktop, too.

Check online for that message and recent update.
I have seen a Windows update take as much as an hour stuck on a screen like that, especially if the machine is low on RAM memory.

If you've ever seen Windows stuck on "Shutting Down" or "Restarting", it is the same thing. More often than not it is a stuck program or service that will not shutdown via normal termination... just like some that get stuck while Windows is running and you try to End Task or Stop service through Task Manager.
