Another Home Inspector story

You did see the photo, right? Two conductors are under one terminal, both are discolored from overheating and one is burnt.
That does not mean it is from having two conductors in the same hole.

You are allowed to put a single neutral there that is on a fifty amp circuit but you can't put two conductors that are 15 amps each? How does that make any sense?

I believe the only reason that we don't put two neutrals in one hole is to comply with the code section whose intention I gather is to facilitate the disconnection and reconnection of one circuit at a time. (408.41) If two (or sometimes three) EGCs are allowed in one hole, it's not a mechanical/ampacity issue.

That and I've seen 2 different wire sizes under the one screw and with that you can't get proper torque on both wires, either one will be loose or one over torqued.

If you cannot put conductors of different sizes under the same screw it will be labeled that way.

We have a California family friend that bought the "farm" in West Virginia. They had a "Home Inspector" recemented by the local realtor. The report found nothing wrong with the home. After moving in, many problems emerged, it's called dry rot. When you are considering purchasing a home on the East coast, The first question is, has this home been under water ? West Verginia's love Californians !

I was all set to hear about a real tragedy. The phrase, "bought the farm" is slang for "he died".
