Another newbie question

With respect to DB or not....
  • 1) I'd rather use a conduit, but if the customer likes the price of DB better, then give the customer what they want.
  • 2) If the ground is rocky or somehow may be harmful to the DB wiring, then conduit is the only answer, but the question then becomes PVC, IMC, or RMC??

I personally like IMC cuz it only needs to go down 6 inches..or PVC cuz it is reasonably impervious to nearly everything except a shovel, or plumbers looking for the drain field...... even with a trencher going down knee deep for PVC is not the highlight of my career....

Anybody else have an issue with direct burial cable?

If you have burrowing rodents in the area of the installation your customer can't afford to not have it installed in a raceway.

I have repaired rodent damaged conductors that were buried 5 foot deep before.

I have also heard that minimum raceway size for non metallic raceways is 1 1/4 inch otherwise there are some critters out there that will chew through the raceway too, although I have not seen it myself.
