Another Odd J-box question

The question of whether a room could be used as a J-box jogged in my
mind the question:
Can a building be used as the cover plate for a J-box:

The J-box is for these luminaires:

only word i say get rid of them and get proper box to support the luminaire [ both luminaire about 8 to 12 lbs a peice ]

for the junction box like that on first photo that is backward set up ughh i am suprised that someone did not get the wire nicked like that.

Yes, provided it is fed with an indoor wiring method when installed in a damp location, the box is not listed for a damp or wet location, and the raceway connector is not listed for the raceway used. 315.21(A)(3)(c), exceptions 2,4, and 5.

How would you have access to the JB. This is not at all code compliant.

Screws shall not be permitted to pass through the box unless exposed threads in the box are protected using approved means to avoid abrasion of conductor insulation.

I do wonder how that is much different then the 2" long screws that come with many fixtures.

the other thing is that if this black pipe is used to support the luminaire IMO this is not a correct way to support as well. [ the 1X2 wood block below of the pipe ]

The picture isn't that good, but indeed the only
visible means of support I observed were what looked like
2 x 2"+ deck screws going through the middle of the box,
so I think Chris has a bingo. Also agree on all the
other comments.

What I found amazing about this installation is that it's
on a storefront on a fairly busy street, and the poor
workmanship is on public display. I took a picture of it
this morning when I was reminded of it by the other
post on J-boxes, but I had been thinking about it in
the vein of the always amusing "spot the violation"
posts. I thought the install was amusing but depressing
at the same time since it seems apparent that anything
goes around here.
