My company just removed Phased taped #2 black taped green. Ok with NEC but not with job specs. Cost for this mistep? About $46,000.00 I just started this week. My job to stop this kind of thing.

Not necessarily...

The method can be documented and located on a per instance basis. For example, at each junction box where spliced the method utilized within this junction box is written on the inside of the cover.

2008 NEC said:
The method utilized for conductors originating within each feeder panelboard or similar feeder distribution equipment shall be documented in a manner that is readily available or shall be permanently posted at each feeder panelboard or similar feeder distribution equipment.​
