I have a customer that has 320W highbays. The lamps sieze and will not
unscrew. I tried nickle-anti-sieze very lightly on the lamp shell close to
the glass leaving bare metal for good connection and keeping it away from
the tip. It works. The lamps do not fall out but they no longer break in
your hands trying to unscrew them. (You have to Unplug first and wear
Kevlar gloves if they are real bad)Lamps siezing is a big problem in one
building. One of my bosses says stop it is against code the other says it is
not against code.Is it against code? If so where in the code?

Nickel based one is probably conductive, so if it gets on the insulator, it may cause it to arc over on starting and misfire, particularly in base down application where the compound could creep down.

Dielectric grease that you use to fill spark plug boot on engines maybe helpful though. It will basically keep water from getting there and may prevent seizing by preventing corrosion.

I use Bulb EZ. Works great on any type of lamp.

Bulb-Ez is just one product out there made for this problem, there are a few, I know it is a very high temperature rated silicone grease that wont "creep down" and as a dielectric wont cause a flash over, I use it for any lamp that gets very hot with a aluminum or copper shell or socket, the HID Sylvania lamps I have been getting have now been coming with a stainless shell that I haven't had a problem of seizing, also coating the shell will not prevent the lamp from making contact, I put it at the base so it speads as you screw in the lamp.

We did it all the time in the glass plant I used to work in. It was hot we had to use proclean connectors on the connections.
