How many KW would you guess??? I can't find a nameplate on the AC portion. The DC exciter has a tag that says one kilowatt at 110 V DC. I was told it was a lightplant off of a mining shovel. V-4 Wisconsin power. I have all the parts to put it back together. Should be pretty easy to get parts for the engine, very common on rider trenchers. Alternator looks kinda small for that size of engine. Could be a high frequency test generator for planes (500 hertz)?

Yeah I have all the parts, not to mention my buddy down the street at the junkyard has a whole truck body full of Wisconsin parts. I know where it came from. I picked it up there, it's from mining people I know. They said it was a light plant off of a shovel, They gave me what looks like all the tin and the air cleaner etc. Looks like #8 wire coming out of it, if that means anything. Maybe I'll find a clue in the peckerhead. Belt drive looks really beefy and 1 to 1. I'm guessing it's a 1800 RPM
 
The last one I did was right after 9/11. It was a royal pain getting in on the base. Not easy navigating the barricades with a trailer. Removed a motor/generator, replaced with an electronic one.

You are great ! The world needs to know all about Engineering in the past so it isn't lost forever.
 
I always close the gasoline valve first, then let the generator run out of gasoline. So, the carburetor stays dry, until the next call for duty. Is this the correct way to do this ?

That is a solid 50/50... Id keep fuel in there to keep the shut off needle and other oring things wet. Especially if its in the sun all day.
If it doesnt leak the next time the fuel is turned on then sweet... The good 50.

Yeah, and with gravity fed fuel systems turning off the gas is a good idea, Keeps you from finding all your gas is gone because it dripped on the floor. The best thing to do to keep them ready is to exercise them every once in a while. Better if you load them for a bit.

These milkhouse heaters are handy for that. Usually enough for portables

Run for awhile at no load to cool first too. I slowly close the manual choke as needed for smooth running as the gas level in the carburetor gets low. Gets the very last drop. :)
 
Ok cleaned up the tag on the exciter a little better. Seems it is 300 watts DC. I really need to start wearing my glassesgen tag.jpg
 
I have heard a lot about the "quality" of welding machines. I am a career welder and to tell the truth I dont really pay attn. Mt shop machine is the little red one, I also have gray ones and have had them a long time. Sa old 2.JPGSa 200 3.JPGLincoln leads.JPG

This little noisy bugger is my fave eng drive, I have another one also but this really has the poop. Wayyyyyyyyyyyyy above its listed ratings. Its aux is 6K and it will start a 5 hp motor without a burp. It is a 6010 eater.
