Y'all are killing our reputation for plates not being level!
Next you'll be vacuuming up behind your selves....Whoops....LOL

What would the plumbers think if their Butcrak disappeared?

If all that void was suddenly filled, the ocean level would drop.

Celtic,

"This thing?
I did the same with a 9" torpedo level and a hacksaw...I simply notched the metal edge of the level 5x...1 dead center, 2 for width of box, 2 for height of box."

Yes. I improvise in the field also. Your idea seems proficient but I like the prefab template. I might take the idea and make something similar, for personal use.

If I can "modify" 1 tool to fit many needs - I'm game:
- like the pipe reaming attachment for a screwdriver - love it
- my vacuum that "attachs" to a rotozip - goes everywhere with me
- etc

Zippy loves my vacuum set up ;)

Check this out. "Twist a nut" with reamer attachment. One side can be used to tighten wire nut but my favorite feature is the reamer. Pull it out and put into a drill. I have used it when working with the masons. It is handy when you have multiple pieces of EMT to ream. I use a file to remover burs from the EMT, making it square. I then go to town with my drill and reamer.

I have the Klien model of that

...no, Klien's doesn't have a nut-tightener.

However, I have a deep-rooted love for my Klien 10 -in-1 driver....toss a reamer on that and a nut-tightener.....:D

Or you could end up like my last job....the freaking "rocker" covered up about 10 boxes...MAN was I ticked off...

And what did you do ? Cut them out for him? He will not even thank you.Be smart tell the GC you charge 1 hour for each or he can send them back to fix. Also charge for your return trip.Doing there job never teaches them anything

Clearly, you don't know how to "play the game" ;)

Get out a saw of your choosing and cut two notches at 24" & 36" high - across the ENTIRE wall/room...pop that section of rock out - and let's not be gentle about it...now you can see where your wires are run....and, subsequentially, your box locations .

Cut them out, trim and plate.

Hand them the bill for x$ per buried box.

Even if they don't pay YOU..they'll be paying someone for all that repair work...and they'll never do it again :)

Don't get mad - get even.

Why get upset? just walk up to the drywaller with your hammer in your hand and tell them they covered up your boxes and you would be more then happy to uncover them with your hammer or they can uncover them.

No it happens do not get upset just tell them where the boxes are and let them cut them out we mark box location on floor or prints before drywall so we know where they are.also helps to make sure you have not missed something. you may have missed installing it or it may be covered. take a lumber crayon and mark the floor for all your boxes install your boxes and and run your circuits drywallers install drywall marks are still on the floor for box location if floors are finished we use the blue painters tape to mark locations and annotate the prints with measurements for box location

That must eat up a lot of time transferring all those measurements back and forth.

Over the years I have found here at least that 99% of the drywallers are on piece work from a parent company.I`d uncover maybe 1 or 2 of the boxes on walls but when you find ceiling boxes covered,SD`s covered 5 gangs covered ...........Really simple cure.Call GC or builders supt.Tell them to call the drywall contractor and have them send someone over to uncover the boxes and you`ll return with a trip charge. Or they could uncover them.I didn`t cover them up so,I`m not cutting them out !!!!!!Stick to your guns that one time and the next time (there`s always a next time) they will have someone there right away.I always told the guys if you see alot covered ,make contact the first thing so we could get someone over there right away.

Even if they are next door they still cost you money. All i allow for on a trimout of a simple receptacle or switch is 5 minutes max and that is bit slow.Any time spent on talk about this or calling anyone is time lost.My x partner had the right idea, use hammer and never ever try to find it with first hit.Make a few holes for them to patch.I will and do try to do the nice thing and located it with a lamp and cut it out but thats only for 1 or 2 after that they did not miss them they just dont care.
