Anybody do any snowplowing on the side? I'm looking into it as a way to make a little extra dough during the winter. When it is really snowy I usually just stay home anyway. Might as well make the time productive.

It might be more worthwhile for an EC to try to market his services by some means to those who do plowing. I've fixed two parking lot light standards that got plowed down so far this season. I suspect that there have been others.

being retired i started collecting old tractors---i have nine now, one of my "newer" tractors--a 1947 farmal has a set of plows and i tried it out--four cylinder engine and nothing stops it---now when you hit a buried tree stump--it'll rattle your teeth a bit, but keeps on plowin!!! my oldest is a 1934 hand start -- john deere model "A"............

Plowing? with a guy who has 40 + years in Alaska, I can tell you that the learning curb can be $. It's not so much the cost of replacing sewer pipes, an other "things" the home owner forgot to tell you about in the land of white. It's the cost of fixxing your plow. Just a thought.

don't forget the insurance....our EC insurance doesn't cover plowing...

that true especally with the company owned vechiles but for personal or non commercal vechile it might be a doable but i doubit.

i have snow plow mounted on the 4020 JohnDeere tractor and i allready ran that few time this year.

Otherhand for the EC side yeah .,, I get few calls for replace or repair parking lot luminaires i dont know why but seems some of the plow drivers used them as target pratice to see how close they can clip them without having the luminaire dropped on them.

Merci, Marc

My side business snow plowing has been a total loss for me. Finding good repeat customers has been a bit hard. I should have spent the money I did on the plows elsewhere.....

sometime back in the 80's I bought a cheap (used) plow for my jeep. naturally, it didn't snow for 3 years. after talking to several people, it didn't seem like a great prospect anyway, although I think the landscaping companies who can get several decent office buildings in same locale as clients seem to do ok. but they aren't paying electricians wages either.

Anybody trying to make a living around here plowing snow will go broke in a hurry.

You got that right. 2 years ago every tv forecaster was predicting one of the worst/harshest winters we've ever seen. It didn't snow ONE TIME.

In Charlotte we got nothing last year. This year, I haven't seen a single snow flake. Heck, I was wearing shorts and a tshirt 2 weeks ago when it was in the upper 70's!

Don't know about funny, but i think everyone should make an attempt to list their location at least to the state level. It puts conversation in better context. Just a suggestion. e/m.

plowing here is a good money maker, we get a good amount of snow. just make sure you get a good truck. when you get it clean the whole underbody and undercoat it, it really, really helps, get a 4wd chevy 1500 short box step side, good tires, V8 350 (i like manual trans. , but thats just me), fill the box with sand, put a snow-way plow on it

Weatherman predicted 6" of snow last week. We got zip.

Weatherman & engineers are the only people who can be consistently wrong and still employed.
