We have a payroll deduction form that the employee signs and we take it out in 3 payments,as long as they read what they are signing it is totally legal.
What I don`t agree with is a law here that says even if the pay rate is $20.00/ hour the employer that decides to terminate an employee is only obligated to pay them minimum wage for the hours clocked in :roll:

You all missed the most important tool of thm all....the #2 robertson screwdriver.Oh right ...its a Canadian invention so it doesnt go over well there. :D

I'm not even sure I know where my 3/16" nut driver is. I carry the 5/16" and 1/4" in my pouch most times. I add in the 3/8" when I'm changing ballasts.

But, in the instructor's defense he was referring to the 5/16 and 3/16 width of blade on a straight screwdriver. ;)

Just exactly what tools will this new helper not need that other electricians will need ? If they plan on being an electrician i think they need everything or will within a year.Personally i get sick of hearing can i borrow your ----.Then i am either forced to lend it or he can't do the job.After 23 years i am still adding to my tool list.

What's really funny is when the master electrician who says, "If you can't do it with your nines, a hammer and a screwdriver you're not an electrician," asks you for half the tools in your bags, if you happen to be nearby. :D

Aren't those the guys that don't bother to ask?

George, I see why he needs your tools. He's using 9's (man, I'm incorperating your slang) instead of side cutters (my slang for diagonals).

My personal tools come to about $1500 to $2000.Some might not be touched in a year.And many others are duplicates.Yet there are still times when i find myself in need of something.I just don't care for the idea of greenies wanting to use mine.If they can't do it with what they have then i guess they needed to buy it.This is a career not a hoppy.The ones that tell me they are not going to buy any more tools because they are not staying in this field i simply tell them they should quit now.

I once worked with a machine builder who seemed to collect tools as a hobby.

He had 5 or 6 of those huge big red tool boxes on wheels chock full of stuff. Even had a small fridge in one of them. Electrical power hookups, air tools, alll kinds of goodies.

It was like having a small garage near the machine when he got them all there.

The company he worked for allowed them to buy tools and deduct it from their check, and it seemed he got something new just about every week from the tool guy. Good thing he was single. :)
