I WOULD LIKE TO SEE A SPECIFIC SECTION IN THE NEC INDICATING RECIPROCITY FOR FOREIGN TESTING LABS, IN LIEU OF UL LABELS... IF THERE IS NO UL, THEN ANOTHER MARK FROM THE COUNTRY OF ORIGIN E.G. CSA, VDE, BSI, CE, ETC, FOR IMPORTED EQUIPMENT, AS LONG AS IT CAN BE SAFELY INSTALLED, USED, AND OPERATED BY OUR (NORTH-AMERICAN) STANDARDS. THIS WOULD ESPECIALLY APPLY TO HIGH-END MACHINERY FROM EUROPE. THANKS. JIM GREEN, L A CA

Re: APPROVALS

Please read the welcome in the part of the forum and then resubmit with the caps turned off (it seems like you are shouting). The intent is to help you put together a good proposal to the NEC. We can't do that in this format. :D

Re: APPROVALS

The code does not require UL. Any NRTL is acceptable. The problem is that some of the marks are really meaningless.

For instance, CE means that the manufacturer is certifying that the equipment meets ALL the applicable standards within the European Union. Clearly this is not a good subsititute for a UL sticker.
