Do they make an approved handle tie for 3 pole breakers? Told by an Electrician today that he couldn't find any. I've never seen any and never had a need for any.

just buy a 3 pole breaker. even some of the approved handle ties are not that good at shutting off both breakers. before that was enforced we used to use a screw and it would work

I did a quick Google search and was not able to come up with an identified 3 pole handle tie, just ties for 2 adjacent breakers.

I find it hard to believe that there aren't 3 pole handle ties made for every breaker considering that they have been required by the NEC for some MWBC's since the 2005 code.

I have asked about them at our supplier for GE and they are not available-- at least according to their sources.

Handle ties aren't intended to shut off all 2 or 3 poles in the case of a trip, they are to insure all 2 or 3 poles are turned off when it is done manually.

However, I can't find anything in the UL White Book to back this statement up.

DIVQ.

Paragraph 41 on page 571 kind of explains it too (2008 Edition).

My guess is that manufacturers want to sell 3-pole CB's instead of a $2 handle tie.

That is what I'm thinking but I was wanting to see if there were any so I could tell the electrician's when I turn them down for not having a common trip a cheaper solution than having to buy a 3 pole breaker.
