arc fault and gfi protection required

I see now in the dinning room, pantry,breakfast room, arc fault is required and if on the small appliance circuit, will also be gfi protected as well.Are they trying to eliminate the allowance to put these rooms on with the s/a circuit.
 
Depending on how you run your circuit the receptacles in the dinning, etc may or may not be GFCI protected. It won't hurt anything if they are GFCI and AFCI protected. The technologies do not conflict with each other.

AFCI and Aluminum Wire?

This is the wrong place for this message, but, I would like some expert opinion of the possible benefit of installing AFCI on a home with Aluminum wiring.

I frequently run into older homes with All aluminum wiring and some with cobbled up aluminum wiring and copper.

Many folks will not correct the aluminum wiring, or will be told, it is only required on and electrical receptacles. Many people only believe what they want because they want the house.

It seems to me that an AFCI would add an additional layer of protection to the unknown sections of the wiring. For example when someone cobbled up sections in the walls or other areas that are not visible, or if the repairs to the aluminum wire corrections were improperly done.

Any thoughts?

What he is saying is if you have a circuit doing the dining rec and some counter rec, you are not going to be able to use a GFCI breaker. You will have to use an AFCI breaker because you have receptacles in the dining room and then feed a GFCI rec for the counter.

Gottcha. :) Thanks for clearing that up. The '08 sure adds a little more confusion to "traditional" wiring methods. :confused: :)
