210.12 C-- (C) Overcurrent Device Replacements. Where panelboards are replaced that contain one or
more circuits requiring AFCI protection by this or other sections of the Code, AFCI protection shall be provided for such circuits.

I thought I read somewhere that this was repealed. Anyone know for sure?

Keesha you need to buy a current set of MA amendments how did you do your CE without a 2005 Code?

That section was in the 2002 MEC and deleted in May of 2002. It does not appear at all in the 2005 MEC.

REPORT ON COMMITTEE ACTIONS ON PROPOSALS
FOR THE
2005 MASSACHUSETTS ELECTRICAL CODE

(This was dated Sep.09,2004.)

[05-12: 210.12(C) (Mass.)]
Submitter: Joseph A. Ross
Proposal: Delete this paragraph and exception from the Massachusetts revision to 210.12.
Substantiation: This is a companion proposal that reflects the substantiation provided with the suggested revision to 210.12(B), and is submitted largely for correlation.
Committee Action: Accept
Committee Statement: The Committee does not necessarily agree with the substantiation. The Committee action reflects the continuing lack of universal availability of products that satisfy the AFCI requirements under all circuiting arrangements.
Number Eligible to Vote: 23

I have the CMR12.00:2005 MEC.. This was given to me at my 21 hr reveiw.

Is this accurate for ALL revisions in existance for the MEC? or just the ones instituted this cycle, for the 05?

I saw the NEMA site and ... where else do I look?

Thanks for the input.

arc-faults

arc-faults

to answer your question

i'm from the great state of RhodeIsland

i actually called 2 different inspectors from towns in my area

and there responses were both the same

arc-fault breakers are only required for new construction new wiring

again , as pointed out, its up to each individual town , jurisdiction

but then why do they call it the nec (the national electrical code)

So, Excuse my ignorance.

Is this the case or not?

I didn't understand the answer. Was it upheld in 02' and deleted in 04'
then reinstated in 05'?

My residential stuff is weak. Just trying to figure it out.

Thank you.
