I thought I read somewhere maximum sq. ft. on arc fault was 600 sq. ft. couldnt find it in 210.12 any one here of this rule TIA

watts per arc fault

watts per arc fault

In calculating the load for a residence the Code advises to use 3 watts per sq ft. 600 sq ft would be 1800 watts or 15 amps. If one is talking bedroom circuits, 600 sq ft of bedroom could be suppied by one 15 amp arcfault breaker. I imagine thats where your "out of the sky" number comes from.

You can put more than 600 square feet of bedroom on an AFCI circuit. This is not a code requirement.
