Just ran into this situation not a month ago. If the mobile home is built under HUD Code then AFCI's are not required. I was shown the letter provided by the manufacturer of this home. This whole mess has caused the power to not be released by the inspections department. Three Week delay and counting

The HUD standards differ from the usual requirements of the NEC. If a mobile home has a HUD certification label on it (Look outside on the back corner for the little red metal tag), then AFCI requriements do not apply.

The loco inspectors have no jurisdiction over the inside wiring of such structures, only the service pedestal and connecting feeders.

Moble homes, article 550 did not adopt the expanded rules for AFCIs in the 2008 NEC.

That true i did check it and they did not add to it.

Anyway with majorty of new mobilehomes when before they leave the manufacter location they run Hipot or megger test to make sure the wires are good shape that how they get away from this., but I am not suprise someone will change that one and add to this in the NEC code for next cycle.

Merci,Marc
