If you talk to yourself, you're normal. Crazy people have 'someone else' to talk to.

Retired after 40 years as an electrician.
Crazy is when your working partner is out sick for the day, and you get all the 4" bent up and read to drop in, sans the final punches in the cans ( they're all with in a 1/2" and span a pretty good distance, nothing a 3 pound Single Jack won't get close enough to fly.)

I don't suffer from insanity.
I enjoy every minute of it.

I like to think of "insane" as in-sane. "In" meaning inside, or private. "Sane" from the Latin "Sonus" meaning sound. So, my own constructed definition of Insane is "One who hears a private sound."

So, aren't all geniuses "Insane"? Aren't they all driven by an internal sound that calls them to greater heights?

Aren't we (Electrical Folk) all driven by an internal sound that calls us to make a difference? To help protect lives?

Of course I'm insane. I wouldn't have it any other way! ;)

The funniest thing ever was when Bob was posting on the forum on his laptop, in the van while we stopped for lunch.

And after we finished wiring a large retail store, we "tested" the computers by checking the forums. ;)

Both perfectly "normal" behaviors....LOL :D

For those that don't know...and we do have a few users who "name" starts/has "Bob" in it ....would this "Bob" be iwire?

But I like nuts. Simple. Easy to remember. That fits well..... dual meaning and all.
Yes, it does. We're nuts about wiring. I like to think of us as wire nuts.

Our license plates are WYR NUTZ, WYRNUT 1, WYRNUT 2, and WYRNUT 3.

Sometimes people see the first one and say, "We're nuts?" I don't argue.

Right here.
I passed an electrician van on the highway that had monkey graphics on the side, and the name of the company was "The Wire Nuts". Seemed like an odd company name to me.

My wife came into the garage today...She says to me,"Are all Electricians Insane or is it just you?" She's an SDSU psych grad BTW. ..She replied;"..you obsess over it as if it were the Dead Sea Scrolls or something,we can't even go to a nice restaurant without you pointing out "Code" violations, you spend hours on the comp discussing the "Code" with people you don't even know." She continues,"Do all Tradesmen do this?" "Do plumbers sit at the comp at odd hours..

This sound like an invitation to me. You might consider excepting the spouses challenge, confidently stepping out of the garage, rectifying that situation, then sharing your favorite smoke or drink together.

Maybe you're not fulfilling her stereotype of a tradesman?
Do you want remarks at the spouses workplace to associate electricians with mental pre-occupation, trade-obsessive jargon, obsessive computer use in the garage, or other impotent behavior?

I can't help taking pictures of violations that I see. I even took one at my sister's wedding reception.

Sigmund Freud would have a field day with this statement!

I do the same thing... I can't go anywhere without checking out someone else's work. And not a day goes by that I don't see something and think to myself, "Damn! Glad it's not my name on that install."

I constantly catch myself looking at electrical work everywhere. just checking for quality of work, code vio's, or to pick up tips. It has become second nature to me

There's comfort in knowing I'm not the only one thats does this. My wife and daughter always give me a hard time about it.

I have noticed it has gotten worse since I joined this Forum.
