I have a customer with a deteriorated run of UF hanging on trees from their house to two light fixtures for a back yard basketball court.
They would like the wires replaced (probably need to replace the light fixtures too!)
Is there any NEC references that allow or detail how one should attach arial wires (120V) to trees?
The trees tend to get taller and fatter.
Seems like a temporary install at best.
Any suggestions??? I am thinking of just taking the existing stuff down and telling them the trees are not OK for hanging wires + light fixtures.

Thanks for the NEC reference. I was in section 225 but didn't get to .26.
That says it all for me!
No conductors in the trees! What a concept!
Thanks John.

Yes, the prohibition is for running from tree to tree through the air.

Legal
410.16(H) Trees.
Outdoor luminaires (lighting fixtures) and associated equipment shall be permitted to be supported by trees.

You need to back-track to 300.5(D) to get your wiring UP the tree.
