ark fault & gfci on same circuit

Can a gfci outlet be on a ark fault circuit?
I have a customer who wants a gfci outlet in his new family room that i need to wire on an ark fault circuit.
it seems to me they will conflict with each other.
 
Welcome to the forum.:)

GFCI receptacles will function just fine on an AFCI protected circuit.

In fact AFCI technology incorporates GFPE protection within the AFCI circuitry.

Sometimes you may add an outdoor receptacle off the master bedroom deck. This recep need GFCI but the circuit it is fed from is an afci circuit. So, in this case, you would need both GFCI and AFCI protection. The circuit itself would not need both.

Or a wet bar receptacle in the master bedroom. I've put a GFCI on an AFCI protected circuit multiple times with no problems.
 
For what it's worth I have this exact setup in my house. AFCI breaker for a bedroom circuit, and then a GFCI recep at the first location because it's an old house with a lot of 2 wire Romex still installed. Haven't had a single trip yet. Now this is an older AFCI breaker, not the new style ones, I installed it when I bought the house a couple years ago. I know it wasn't required, but I figured that with the ancient wiring it couldn't be a bad idea.

My understanding is that the GFCI protection of a typical AFCI breaker is 30 mA not 5mA. Does anyone make a AFCI that includes a 5mA GFCI? Would be nice to get rid of the ugly GFCI recep
