2008 NEC allows flatwire, which is a ribbon type cable designed to be painted, mudd'ed or wallpapered over.
Southwires 120 version is awaiting listing. Here is a link to the audio type:

120 will be similar.
You install this on the wall with the understanding that it will be damaged. It will have 5 levels of protection, overcurrent, GFCI, portable GFCI, AFCI and one other.
This is the southwire version, does any other company have it available?

I saw this stuff at the CES Show in Vegas. We actually won a kit.
Not too impressed. You need this bug bulky device that carries the AFCI and GFCI to feed the wire.
Unless it is a historic home I don't see the big use.

Thanks for the info, That is going to make some jobs easier.
It seems like it is not shielded as much as say RG-6. Or what about the twisted pairs on cat-5. How will they replicate that ?

Is it actually on the market now? The last time I checked with Southwire, about 6 months ago, they had not completed the required listing agency testing.

there may be some confusion here, as well. We have used flatwire but it is the type that is only listed for commercial use under carpet tiles (I think it was by Amp). I believe that this flatwire is a different type than this new stuff that goes on the wall for resi ?
