Please clarify "subject to shower spray". I am trying to dertermine whether I need a wet or damp location rated recess trim for recess cans mounted in the ceiling over the shower. The ceiling height is 8' AFF and the way I am reading it I only need wet or damp location rated trims if they are subject to shower spray. Where is the line drawn for whether something is subject or not?

Secondly where is the nearest point of relief in relation to the tub edge where you would not need a damp or wet location shower trim if determined necessary?

Thanks

Subject to shower spray is well, subjective. IMO with an 8' ceiling the fixture may never see one drop of water. In that case you would be required to install a damp rated fixture. But it's likely that the AHJ would want to see a wet rated fixture anyway. It's definitely a judgment call. You would measure 3' from the tub edge to form the shower zone.

I agree with Trevor, however I believe you will find most inspectors will require wet location trims or shower trims as we call them.

Remember, as Trevor has said 3' but that applies to any light fixture not just cans.

Also if this is a tub with no shower than there is no issue. Regular open cans are fine.
