I have a question regarding the application of Article 310.6-Shielding. Is there an exception listed in the code that alleviates the necessity for shielding when cabling from the load side of a close-coupled disconnect switch to the primary of a transformer when the primary voltage of the transformer is larger than 2000V? The installations I've been involved with have not used shielding for this application, but I was wondering where this is listed in the code.

It used to be a more common practice to install unshielded cables through 8kv. The 2005 NEC changed the first exception in 310.6 to limit the voltage to 2400 volts. That may be where your previous experience came from.

There are some exceptions listed after 310.6, but they don't apply above 2400 volts.
