Can video camera power wiring run above an accessible ceiling without being in conduit? A hospital facility person is telling me that it falls under Article 725as this is classified as Class 2 wiring.
I tend to disagree but now second guessing myself. Article 400.8 does not permit any flexible cords running above accessible ceilings. I'm not referring to the actual video signal connection wiring, I'm referring to the wiring that is plugged into a receptacle and then connected to the video camera. Any clarrification would be appreciated.
Thanks.

Honestly I don't know what type of cord it is. I haven't seen it. From my understanding, it's a power cord that plugs into a video camera that is located on the ceiling. They are running that cord above an accessible ceiling and then plugging it into a wall receptacle. I'm assuming it has a low voltage transformer on the plug or somewhere along the line.

If the wall wart will plug into the receptacle, and the secondary (output) is Class 2 or 3 voltage, then the cable is not covered by 400, but amended by the rules of 725, which say it's ok.
If the cord is line voltage, then no good.

At this point we are getting info that is not very reliable. You need to actually see it to completely understand the installation.

A power cord plugged into a receptacle above a suspended ceiling is not permitted.

Sorry Pierre....I realize that the information is vague. I just got the call this afternoon and requested more information from them. The project was completed a few months ago and now the user is just getting around to installing the video camera. Normally I thought the power comes from a unit and then a video cable ran to the actual video camera. I haven't seen one that you plug power into the actual camera on the ceiling so I wasn't sure about the code interpretation on it. By Ron's comment it sounds like it's ok to have the wiring above the ceiling as long as the secondary is class 2 or 3 voltage. When I receive further information I can determine what Class it is. Thanks for your help.
