Emergency and normal in the same enclosure
Emergency and normal in the same enclosure
The setup is that there is a dimming rack that has normally controlled lighting and emergency lighting in the same rack that are used as normally controlled lights during a theatrical production. The emergency lights when under normal power, such as houselights, are controlled by the operator the same as the normal (theatrical) lights are. When normal power is lost, the rack is then supplied with emergency power through a 1008 transfer. Since the rack is UL924, at that point the rack would shed the normal lights and bring up the emergency loads (house lights). Reading 700.23 this seems acceptable. The issue seems to be the education of the EE and the AHJ. Some manufacturers of dimming equipment supply a seperate "emergency only" rack and a "normal rack" in order to satisfy the parties. I see 700.23 allowing both emergency and normal lighting in the same enclosure. How do you interpret the code (Im in Florida).
