Do you have to have a seperate grounding electrode system for a subpanel when the 2 buildings are attached in the 2005 NEC. I thought that you didnt if the buillding is attached, I have been trying to find the code for it but cant.

No, the feeder EGC is all that's required. If it doesn't need a main disco, it doesn't need a GEC.

It it really two buildings per the building codes or is it an addition to a building? If the building codes define the structures as two buildings, then it is my opinion, that 250.32 requires a grounding electrode system at each building.

Do the foundations connect together as one? Or are the buildings connected above ground by some sort of "breezeway" which would mean 2 buildings? ( I agree with Don)

It is possible to have the foundations connected together and still have 2 buildings. A true firewall can seperate one building into 2 buildings.

Also a "breezeway" can make 2 buildings into 1 building.

This is really a building code question.

This could change from one jurisdiction to another also. There are a lot of houses around my area that connect structures with breezeways and the are looked at as separate structures that need separate grounding electrodes.

I agree, thats why I said this is really a building code issue and an AHJ call.
