I am working on an electric sliding entry door. Above it is an air curtain which activates when the door is in the open position then deactivates when the door closes.
The 120 volt switching circuit is an SO cord which runs from the air curtain three feet to an enclosed micro switch mounted on the sliding door.
The company that works on the door unit wants to be able to disconnect the door mounted micro switch from the air curtain.
The metal strip that the micro switch is mounted to has to be removed to service the door motors. When the metal strip is removed it hangs from the SO cord and it makes it very difficult to service the door.
Is there anywhere in the code that says I cannot use a matching 15 amp 125 volt male cap and female body to accomplish this? The female body will be located at the snap switch located on top of the air curtain and the male plug will be located on the end of the SO cord.
This is located on a government building on a militay reservation and has been approved by the athority having jurisdiction.
If I use low voltage I still have to be able to disconnect the power source to the door micro switch. The company that services the door will not do so unless they can remove the micro switch without having to disconnect wiring.
Also the existing micro switch is to be used and not replaced. So installing a senseing system is out of the question.
Thank You
