Hi everyone!
I have a question regarding the effect of 65% over 80% tapping of Auto-transformer reduced voltage starting.
I have an experience that a 200Hp/460V motor with a tapping of 80% Auto-transformer reduced voltage starting tripped due to low voltage (high current) during starting. Sometimes, it is necessary to trip other motors on MCC (same location) just to operate this 200Hp/460V motor otherwise same problem will occur during starting.
Is there any detrimental effect on motor and Step Down Power Transformer 4160V/460V (main source) when existing tapping will modify from 80% down to 65% tapping? Is there a standard design on auto-transformer reduced voltage tapping for 150HP, 200HP, 250HP (460Volts) and 400HP (4160V)? What is the safest tapping 80% or 65%?
Hope to hear from you guys...
