Long story short: the gate arm hit my vehicle, damaging it. I was hoping someone could help me out with a code question. Ive searched but cant find much relating to this. My question is: do automatic gate operators need to have permissives on them that will stop them from doing damage? When I say permissives I mean limits, phote eyes, etc. I assume it would be some kind of requirement but I cant find it anywhere.

Any help would me much appreciated. Thanks.

Any codes pertaining to this are not going to be part of electrical codes.

Many of these gates will have buried detectors that will keep from operating the gate if a vehicle is present in the path of the gate, they are electromechanical devices which can and will fail though.

Most gates I have seen may cause minor damage but do not have the power to do much major damage to most any vehicle, A typical healthy adult standing in the path of gate is likely able to stall the gate operator with no injury, the gate controller will either detect high current and stop or motor will cut out because of an overload protector.
