Is there a way to disable animated graphics on members avatar?

As much as I like to see members' graphics (photo) I hate it when it starts flashing or even changing scene.

I don't mean to discard this feature completely I just want to disable it on my machine.
I'm using Linux.
It annoys me so much I had to "IGNORE" some poster but sadly this ignore command doesn't work on all members.

IMO it is distracting and doesn't add quality to the post.

Sorry

near top of most any page while using this site, click on "forum actions", then "general settings". Scroll down to thread display options and uncheck "show avatars".

This will probably solve your issue.

Add; scroll all the way to bottom of page after making changes and click on "save changes"

might be other settings of interest to change for you in there also.

One that many like is to change the number of posts per page to the maximum of 40 instead of the default of 10.

There are several members with scroll/flash avatars. The only people he cant block are mods, so maybe you, but maybe 480sparky, Dennis, the late Smart$, and many more.

I think they are pretty cool really. kwired has the solution w/o anyone needing to change avatars.

If you have slow speed, limited data, small screen, etc. I could see the desire to block avatars or change many settings that can be changed.

Thanks for the insight. I tried it but no worky worky.
It's not about insufficient resources. . . I've got the fastest FIOS available in my area and projecting image on 40 inch monitor.
Also I use internet for TV, internet access, phone (OOMA) and Amazon Fire.

All of these services require beyond wimpy data delivery.

did you click "save changes" at bottom of page?

I just did it and have no avatars when viewing posts now.

ADD:

I went and changed it back and see avatars again.

I did what you said but still a nuisance:weeping:
I wonder if MHF app is not compatible with LINUX Ubuntu?
Perhaps a Linux user could chime in.

Could be. I'm using windows and chrome browser.

I stopped using Windows since the turn of the century :) but I use Chrome occasionally.
The irony is I'm a certified Microsoft Network Engineer and I'm no longer using any MS product.

Just don't let Bill Gates know.

under Thread Display Options is

Where have you been....Long time no see..

We got busy, less time for casual internet time, and my wife had been ill for a couple of years. She passed away this past April, but I had no questions until this week, so here I am.

That one work. Now I can remove those members from my "IGNORE" list.
Thanks a lot.

Sorry for your loss. She was a nice lady.

Thank you, and she was the BEST!

The best helper I ever had: she had plenty of her own tools when we met, and had even done some wiring for herself.

The best teacher: I learned just about everything I know about using computers from her, even though I had a Mac.

The best life partner: in 19.5 years together, neither of us ever called the other one a name, not even an adjective.

She is irreplaceable. I will miss her forever. She was, and no doubt is an .

Sorry for your loss as well, but if you never called one another a name - how did you address one another, especially if not alone, or were you em-path's and could read minds?

Actually, yes, we did read each other's minds a lot of the time, as we thought so much alike. Customers have said we looked like one person with four hands when we worked together; we hardly had to speak to each other. For example, when installing a ceiling fan, she had the blades assembled by the time I was ready for them.

Smart-ass. ;)

FWIW, the saved changes work only when browsing while logged in. Doesn't work when browsing as guest.
Nevertheless it's a relief and it may even save someone (watching you surfing) from epileptic seizure.
All the best.
