Doing design on a new office space. My vote is to totally delete the use of troffers. They are so 80s. I have seen several grid light options but what has to be considered is being comparable in budget to troffer, in which I find companies are gouging nicely for these lights, which are actually way less materials. And have a sound strategy for repair or replacement. As in, more standardized, or enough so that something like the LED strips or drivers can be sourced or stocked.

I didn’t think we would be replacing high bays or UFOs soon but an area city sports complex uses linear LED strips throughout. Forty plus feet above finished floor. Beautiful and fully functional.

IMO, The troffer as we knew it is a thing of the past.
Are you talking strip lights on a suspending ceiling, or? Are they the T bar frame type? Some of them look like a labor rich nightmare but probably worth it for a modern look. I just can't even look at troffers any more. I've also seen such drastic aesthetic improvements just going from an old 2x4 tile, to an architectural 2x2. Serious price difference though!

Strip lights hung from cable. Straight as an arrow.
Linkies? I sort of think the grid lighting on the market is very over priced and we might be able to solve this with more universal products, such as the PCB strips that you break and terminate. More or less when you open a high bay strip light. What we realized years ago is install perfection is really not needed because no one can see the mounting when lit anyway.

The cable or rod extension could bring a unique effect. I think what we always fought with is fake marketing specs. We still need to achieve proper lumen performance, and LED has always been frustrating to get proper diffusion.

In looking more, I think the Aluminum extrusion channels with diffuser lenses are prob what we need. Not yet sure where and how to buy but I can see already the channels are very marked up.

Question, are there any lighting suppliers you guys use that have an online catalog?
