Devices caling for a 3-1/2" depth back box that's non gangable. I'm confused by the non gangable part? Is that a 1G box?

Gangable boxes have sides that are removable so you can screw several together.

Yes that is not gangeable but it also does not come in 3.5" deep either so I would guess that it isn't the box you asked about in your OP.
