Personality can often show through posts, I tend to play devils advocate, annoy people with mis-spelling and heavy use of ellipsis... And proud of it!

OH - Butting into open conversations too...

Hey E57, that is half the fun, eh? And it is amazing, once we look past all the ego-building, chest-pumping, and one-upping, we all get to learn stuff too!

Back to the situation: My opinion is that in this situation, the 41 volts is NOT induced.

So we have the red wire not connected to anything. When the black wire in the same cable is energized, the red wire is showing a voltage. Seems like a classic case of high-impedance meter-itis to me.
Classic. I'm glad I have a name for it now.

Not sure we should advocte the 'lick and stick' method... Or the 'turn head away and stick' method...

I ALWAYS touch it a bit or short it just to make certain before I grab it tightly. Seems like a GOOD practice to me.

I get "false" voltage on my fluke all the time and I get negatives on my wiggy because of the number of times it gets yanked out of my bag and ends up on a doorknob.

When in doubt, short it out.
