Backstabbers are off the hook

I bet there's someone running a heater right now. Some people just run cold year-round.
Been to top of Pikes peak in June before, still doesn't get much higher than 50-55 up there even in mid summer. ;) There is a little shop up there for anyone that doesn't know anything about it. You didn't think they would make you drive 20 some miles on winding road with pretty much continuous slope at only 15-25 MPH and not try to sell you souvenirs and snacks once you get to the summit did you?

Two reasons why I'm glad I don't do apartment maintenance any more...dealing with cat-sprayed outlets is one.
I had that once, but in a home. It was old enough that the original wiring was black rigid conduit and BX cable.

The issue was an intermittent breaker trip, so I wired a 150-watt incandescent bulb in series with the breaker.

I isolated each branch of the circuit in the basement ceiling until I was left with the bulb brightness varying.

There was a cat-urine-soaked receptacle behind the front door, an orange glow showing through the slots.

I should probably mention that this was in a surface-mounted Wiremold box.

I don't know why I should mention it, but I feel that I should.

Been there. House as neat as you could imagine. Every room reeked of cat urine.

I went to a house a few weeks ago where some of the kitchen receptacles weren't working. I started my investigation and didn't find anything in the kitchen that would cause the problem. I asked the lady if there were any other receptacles not working and she said maybe one in the dining room. I found it and removed it. It was totally corroded like you see from moisture. I asked if she had a water leak or problem anywhere near there. She said they had a water heater leak in the next room. I said unless it was on this same wall, or enough water leaked to reach the height of the receptacle that the leaking water heater couldn't be the cause.
I showed her where the bad receptacle was and she said "Oh, I bet I know why, we have a dog that we can't break from raising his leg on just about everything in the house and this is his favorite spot."

Thanks alot lady, after I have handled this urine soaked thing!!!
BTW, replacing the recep took care of the nonworking ones in the kitchen.

My mother in law had a phone stop working once, surface mount type jack attached to baseboard trim. I got down on my knees to take a look and never even had the cover off yet when I smelled what was going on. Her dog that she claims doesn't go in the house anymore been using that area, and it corroded the phone jack.

I changed out a recep today that looked exactly like this … it wasn’t back-stabbed either. It was in the master bath.

I wired the house back in 2007; screw terminal had come loose over the years, and it was the recep used for a hair dryer. It happens.
