Re: Backstabbing and AFCI's
as it turns out the gfci was also bad. i guess that is why there was enough of a spark to cause ignition. also of course it is a 15 amp gfci tied to 15 amp outlet with #14 wire on a 20 amp bathroom breaker. oops. this is why homes burn. and in my own home i find this crud no less. this makes me steam. putting it back together i guess it will not hurt a bit to use the no-lox. there is an industrial equivelant to prevent arcing across contacts. if this is the stuff i think you are speaking of. i might as well just rip the mains off the wall and repull this whole house. the more i dig the worse stuff i find. man am i mad. and this home was inspected too. that was 12 years ago when i moved here i can no longer hold the inspector accountable. i should have checked this all first. homeowners really need to be aware of shoddy workmanship in new or existing construction or whenever they hire an electrician.
unfortunatly you can no longer trust everyone.
now this is totally off topic, but in the process of repairing this fiasco i got impatient and broke a nice white heavy ceramic outlet cover(standard not duplex). color tile and home depot do not have these fancy trim pieces. i would be very gratefull if someone knew a source for such an item. the bathroom looks bad without it. well my wife is upset i broke it too.
i just edited this post: the leviton sales guy said he'd get me a cermaic wall plate tomorrow.
now i just gotta go pull a mile of wire.....
