I have a question. Why is the additional conductor in a 12/4 NM (12/2/2) white with brown stripe? Why not a blue conductor? Why anything to do with white, since the cable already has a grounded conductor?

I've gotten 12/4 both ways. It's handier with an extra white condutor, since these new AFCI requirements are coming up. Can't really remark a conductor that small as white if you're doing two circuit with two neutrals.

I would prefer it either red or blue.
But white with red stripe is the only way I can find it here.
