Ballast Bypass for lights

Does anyone have any experience with the lights in the picture. How would you go about doing a ballast bypass for those?

The bypass part is no biggie, I would say the larger question is what type of bulb to use. Maybe something like a corncob, which is not really a great solution, but your fixture is already designed to deflect a uniform light source down. Maybe a big par bulb? Depending on the fit, maybe you could put something like a recessed retrofit trim in there.
