Does anybody know a California Building Code (CBC) that doesn't allow for inverters to be ballast mounted on flat roofs? I know the SMA Core 1 inverters come ready to be mounted in that manor.

Thanks!

I'm not aware. I would say the SMA Tripower Core1 is not really ballast mounted, it just sits on the roof, heavy enough on it's own.

In California the issues would be seismic. I believe at one point AHJs were using a certain engineering whitepaper as a guideline, which required ballasted solar arrays with no actual roof attachments to be something like 10ft from the roof edge so that an earthquake could not cause them to 'walk' off the roof. I would imagine that kind of enforcement could apply to inverters too.
