It use to be the receptacle in a residential room would need to start at roughly 6 ft from the door jam, no point putting a receptacle behind the doors swing space. I think it's deemed not usable wall space

Many inspectors may see/allow it that way but as NEC is worded you start measuring from the opening in the "wall space"

Only "sliding doors" the NEC has addressed in any way on this is patio doors or similar that have a part that is fixed and a part that moves. The fixed part of those counts as "wall space" when it comes to required receptacle placement.
