Here is my predicament, I am drywalling my garage and if I don't get a feeder to the basement for a sub-panel now it will be a major pain in the butt later. It would entail a lot of drywall repair and fishing. I'm not even planning on finishing my basement but you never know? I am a tightwad so I hate to spend the $ on feeder wire for something I have no plans on utilizing right now.
Should I run a couple 12-2's and a couple 14-2's down there or should I take a feeder like a large SER cable?

I hate to even have to do this now but like I said, it will be a royal pain later.

What would you do? What would you run down there for a future set up? The basement is big roughly 1100sf. The length of wire I would need to run is 65'.

I have a feeling Im going to hear take a feeder 1-1-1-3 AL SER for a 100a sub-panel and be done. But remember I'm cheap and I think 100a sub-panel is over kill but I know that would be a proper set up.

Run a 1" piece of PVC conduit and a string. String is cheaper than wire and no panel required at all.

Do nothing now, then in a year or so when you want that heater, big screen, table saw, etc. think back to your question!:)

Seriously, either run a feeder or conduit now.

2-2-2-4 would be about $100 wire cost for 65'. A stick of 1" and a few clamps is <$5.

Why are you drywalling the garage? Last I checked most werent and drywall isnt free either.
