Bath Exhaust Fans

Are they required or is it just considered good design? BTW, I always install them but have had customers ask about their necessity especially if there is a window in the bathroom.

I believe it's a building code -not an NEC item -that requires a window or fan.

303.3 of IRC 2003 Requires a window of not less than 3 square feet half of it is to be openable or 50 cfm intermittent/20cfm continuous fan ventilation in each compartment of the bathroom

Massachusetts requires a bath ventilation fan window or no window.
