bath exhaust question

I just came from a remodel that was wired by a fly by night handimesser. I went through the house and in the bathroom the guy had installed an exhaust fan light combo in the shower space.This doesn't set well with me but I want opinions and maybe a code reference if this is allowed or not.

The bath fan manufacturer will have a sticker in the unit that will require GFCI protection of the fan.

almost all houses i have done lately have used them.as marc pointed out needs to be on a gfi.

there is no code rule on installing a bath fan over a shower. BUT if the manufactuer of the fan says you can then its legal as long as you follow what the instructions say. a GFCI is part of the bath fans listing. if you dont put a gfci on the fan then you are installing an unlisted device and going against 110.3B. :grin:

Are GFCI's required on all bath fans? If so I totally missed that one.
