I have an inspector telling me that all bath fans are required to be switched. He says that a disconnect is required within sight of the fan. Many bath fan manufacturers are now producing fans with DC mtors that are designed to be run continuously without a switch for the purpose of whole house ventilation, which is what the GC is using in this house.

Does anyone have any idea of a code number that would require this? Thanks for the help!

What is the hp of the motor?

The plug on the fan motor should be inside the fan housing and this is your disconnect. Are you saying you wired the bathroom fan directly and it runs 24/7?? or runs when the light is switched on????

He is saying the fan is on 24/7. If it were on with the light then there would be a disconnect.

Yes, it is on 24/7 as part of the whole house ventilation system. This fan was designed specifically for this application. Here's where you can find the spec sheet on it from Panasonic...
